"WarChild - Modena" - september 12, 1995. Bono, The Edge and Brian Eno premier "Miss Sarajevo" at the annual Pavarotti and Friends concert in Modena, Italy. The concert is in support of a charity for Bosnian war orphans, WarChild. Bono and Edge are joined by Brian Eno and opera singer Luciano Pavarotti at the latter's "Pavarotti and Friends" concert in Modena, Italy, to perform the new song "Miss Sarajevo," featuring vocals by Pavarotti. The song shares its title with a documentary done by U2 friend Bill Carter, and partially financed by the band, who previously "reported" via satellite from Sarajevo during several concerts on the Zooropa tour in the summer of 1993. U2 later performs a version of "One" complete with classical orchestra. To finish the concert Passengers members join Pavarotti and the rest of the artists to perform 'Nessun Dorma' and at the final Edge sprays champagne. The concert is an annual event hosted by Pavarotti and is a benefit to raise money for the children of Bosnia. read more on: Warchild

61st 'VERTIGO' show - september 12, 2005 - TorontoON, Canada - Air Canada Center - Dashboard Confessional - 'In A Little While' / 1st live of 'Fast Cars' / references to Gulf Coast / Daniel Lanois and Leonard Cohen were there / Bono surprises at Leonard Cohen premiere / Bono performed a capella with the African Children´s Choir! - Vertigo's 3rd leg formally opens in Toronto, where U2 has already done two performances for Hurricane Katrina relief. Bono makes several references to the Gulf Coast during the show. Before 'One' he compares the devastation there to the images of extreme poverty in Africa. He adds a bit of 'Ol Man River after One - it's a 75+ year old song from the musical 'Show Boat' which addresses the struggles of life along the Mississippi River. Fast Cars is played live for the first time ever and In a Little While is played for the first time since the Elevation Tour. '40' isn't on the printed setlist, but closes the almost 2.5-hour show. Daniel Lanois and Leonard Cohen are among the celebrities at the show. **** "Hello, hello...Toronto!' announced Bono...'With your film festival and all, don't forget your rock'n'roll. Tonight this is a rock'n'roll festival.'...'Normally we start out in Toronto and then move out West, this time we were working up to Toronto !' ... Miss Sarajevo: 'So what a strange year, we're lovers in a dangerous time,' rapped Bono, dropping in a reference to a song by the legendary Canadian singer-songwriter Bruce Cockburn. 'All the devastation, London, Turkey, the Middle East, these are strange times to live in London or New York or Toronto. We have a song to dedicate to this time and we'd like to turn it into a prayer tonight and the prayer is that we do not become a monster in order to defeat a monster...' And so Edge began playing the keyboard intro to Miss Sarajevo, a song originally recorded with Brian Eno and set in war-torn Bosnia. 'Is there a time for human rights?' sang Bono ... One ran into a lovely snatch of Old Man River as everything was illuminated with ten thousand cell phones. ... Fast Cars, a track that many fans had never heard before - and one, as Bono admitted, the band had never played live. 'I'm going nowhere / Where I am it is a lot of fun / They're in the desert to dismantle an atomic bomb / I watch them channel hop / Check the stocks / I'm in detox / I want the lot of what you've got / If what you've got can make this stop...' Fast Cars appears as the twelfth track on How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, but only on the Japanese and UK versions of the album, and the Deluxe edition. Credit to those fans on the front row who were, unbelievably, singing along word for word! **** Calling Prime Minister Paul Martin "a friend" who has improved his record on global aid. **** Bono, introducing 'Fast Cars' 'If we f--- up, just blame Larry. He doesn't show up for rehearsals - No one's heard this one. Well, maybe three people.' ... In the audience were U2 producer Daniel Lanois; actors Cuba Gooding Jr., Orlando Bloom, and Kate Blanchett; film makers Neil Jordan and Atom Egoyan; Barenaked Ladies' singer Stephen Page; media personality George Stroumboulopoulos; and Canadian singer and activist Chantal Kreviazuk. **** Bono surprises at Leonard Cohen premiere **** Bono performed a capella with the African Children´s Choir: ...Bono, in Toronto for this week's U2's concert, stayed only for the cocktail reception. The Irish singer and self-styled politician did, however, manage to squeeze in an impromptu a capella performance with the African Children's Choir. The children later sang with Chantal Kreviazuk and Our Lady Peace. During the rousing closing number, We Are All Innocent, there wasn't a dry eye in the house....theglobeandmail**** Where You Live Should Not Decide--African Well Fund Launches New Fundraising Campaign to Coincide with U2's Vertigo Tour -- Where you live should not decide, whether you live or whether you die. Bono has admitted he suffers from severe stage fright - September 12, 2006 - despite the fact he's been playing to packed stadiums for 25 years. The U2 frontman says he still feels "nervous" and "sick" when he wakes up on the morning of a gig, even after quarter of a century. "The morning before a show I get nervous. I can wake up with a sick feeling," he told Harper's Bazaar. The 46-year-old Irish star also worries he might let the crowd down by giving a less than perfect vocal performance. "I have to hit very high notes and if you hit them wrong you can put your throat out," he said. "So there's a 'Will I? Won't I?' aspect to it. "It used to worry me sick. That sense of, how could I meet the levels of anticipation? "If you're a rock star and need 25,000 people telling you they love you, obviously you must be a very insecure person," he joked.
