THIS DAY - U2'S HISTORY: U2 play to a biggest crowd in 78 / starts the rehearsals to 'LoveTown' / U2 win Best Group Video Award-MTV 1992, with a party at backstage / 'Sugar, Sugar' in Madrid / "I´m Not Your Baby" / 'One' - Shelter From The Storm: A Concert For The Gulf Coast / 'Love And Peace Or Else' - ReAct Now: Music & Relief / Benefit t-shirts sale to benefit the ONE campaign and help factory workers in Lesotho !

Early day - Ireland - september 9, 1978. U2 perform in Dublin, Ireland at the Top Hat Ballroom as support for "The Stranglers". U2 are paid a 50 pound fee for the gig, and play their biggest crowd yet- 2500 people. With no dressing room of their own, U2 are forced to change behind the stage. During the set, The Edge breaks a guitar string and the Strangler's crowd starts throwing bottles and lit cigarettes at the band.

"Boy" tour - september 9, 1980. U2 perform in Bristol, England at the Berkeley.

"The Unforgettable Fire" tour - september 9, 1984. U2 perform in Sydney, Australia at the Entertainment Centre. The show suffer minor techincal difficulties, but none like the first night. Support for all five concerts is Matt Finish.

"LoveTown" tour - september 9, 1989. U2 arrive in Sydney, Australia to start rehearsals for the "LoveTown" tour.

"ZOOTV" tour - september 9, 1992. U2 perform in Pontiac, Michigan at the Pontiac Silverdome. Dana Carvey, dressed as "Garth" of "Wayne's World" hosts the show and introduces U2 when their satellite transmission is picked up. "Well," Bono explains, "It's ZooTV in Detroit -- let's see if we can find some MTV," and flips through the channels to find Garth on the screens. "We did it! It's Bono!" Garth shouts, and starts jumping up and down. Bono invites Garth to join the band for "Even Better Than The Real Thing" to which Garth replies with a shout, "I'm not worthy!" Garth jumps onto a drum-kit and his image is shown through-out the song while Bono sings, "You're the real thing, dude!" At one point, Bono drops to his knees and shouts at the video screen, "Drum Solo, Garth!" elicting a laugh from Larry. Later on the MTV broadcast, Annie Lennox and Peter Gabriel announce U2 as the winner of the Best Group Video (U2 were nominated for two), and show U2 in their dressing room after the concert at the Silverdome. Gabriel explains that he's really enjoyed the four ZooTV concerts that he's been to, and Bono replies with a grin, "You're a mad bastard, Peter!" Support is B.P. Fallon, "Primus", and "Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy".

"POPMart" tour - september 9, 1997. U2 perform in Madrid, Spain - Estadio Vincente Calderon - Placebo. Edge´s karaoke this night is 'Sugar Sugar'.

"The End Of The Violence" - september 9, 1997. The "End of the Violence" soundtrack is released. It contains a duet of Bono and Sinead O'Connor-- "I'm Not Your Baby".

Shelter From The Storm: A Concert For The Gulf Coast - September 09, 2005 / Toronto ON, Canada - Air Canada Center - 'One' - Mary J. Blige provides guest vocals with Bono as U2 performs for the 'Shelter from the Storm' televised concert to raise money for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. The performance is taped earlier today in an empty Air Canada Centre. The Vertigo Tour stage is lit in red, though there's no light show - the focus is on the heartfelt performance.

'Love And Peace Or Else' - ReAct Now: Music & Relief - September 09, 2005 / Toronto ON, Canada - Air Canada Center - Love and Peace or Else. U2 tape a performance for the MTV/VH-1 'React Now' charity concert to raise money for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. The performance is taped after their duet with Mary J. Blige for a separate charity concert, and will air a day later. The band play again inside an empty arena, though this performance includes the full Vertigo lighting production. Bono changes lyrics, singing 'All you K-Marters / All you Americans' in place of the 'daughters of Zion / Abraham sons' couplet. Bono also sports a new headband - it says HELP on it, rather than the COEXIST logo.

Benefit t-shirts sale to benefit the ONE campaign and help factory workers in Lesotho - September 9, 2006 - It's announced: Buy an Edun special edition T-shirt at Nordstrom starting Monday to benefit the ONE campaign and help bring AIDS relief to factory workers in Lesotho, the African country where the T-shirts are produced. For every $40 T-shirt sold, Edun will donate $10 to the Apparel Lesotho Alliance to Fight AIDS Fund, which provides education and medicine to the factory workers and their families. Edun is the socially conscious clothing label created by U2 frontman Bono; his wife, Ali Hewson; and New York fashion designer Rogan Gregory. The company's founding philosophy is to manufacture clothes according to fair trade principles. The ONE campaign, another Bono project, aims to fight AIDS and extreme poverty.
