"ZOOTV" tour - october 10, 1992. U2 perform in Tampa, Florida at Tampa Stadium. A chorus of "Singing in the Rain" is sang as it rains throughout the show. "Dear Prudence", a Beatles' song is performed acoustically and with a lot of emotion - it is the only time that the song appears during the tour. After "Pride(In The Name Of Love)" a fan jumps on stage. Bono talks with him for a few seconds and then asks the crowd, "This dude here just crashed the stage, he says he's a great songwriter. You want to hear one of his songs or not?" The crowd cheer loudly and the singer-songwriter addresses the crowd, "It's good to finally be here...This is called 'An Eye For An Eye Makes The Whole World Blind." He plays guitar and sings a long six minute socially-critical song - the band decide not to play "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" and "Stand By Me". They return for the encore and thank the performer, "God bless you - you have some guts!" Bono bows at the fan. Support is B.P. Fallon, "Big Audio Dynamite II" and "Public Enemy".
"Elevation" tour - october 10, 2001 - South Bend, Indiana - Joyce Center, Univ. of Notre Dame. Garbage . U2 opens the third leg of its Elevation World Tour in at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana -- home of the 'Fighting Irish.' This is the band's first concert since the September 11 attacks and the show serves as a tribute to those who lost their lives and the rescuers in New York City and Washington, DC. Major setlist changes. Bono repeats 'The heart is a bloom, it shoots up through the stony ground' as the band takes the stage. A full cover of Marvin Gaye's 'What's Going On' comes early in the show. Updated lyrics in 'New York' include 'I lost my balance, you lost your wife.' Bono speaks at length about Drop the Debt prior to 'One.' More than a dozen NYC police and firemen are brought on stage at the end of the concert for a walk around the heart. U2.com airs with some exclusive cam's view.
'What's Going On' (Bono's cam by U2.com):
73rd 'VERTIGO' show - october 10, 2005 - New York, NY - Madison Square Garden - Keane - "Happy B-Day" to Pavarotti / "Bad" is dedicated to Patti Smith, who was at the attendance! City of Blinding Lights, Vertigo, Elevation, I Will Follow, The Electric Co., I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, Beautiful Day, Miracle Drug, Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own, Love and Peace or Else, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Bullet the Blue Sky, Happy Birthday, Miss Sarajevo, Pride, Where the Streets Have No Name, One - Ol' Man River. Encore(s): Zoo Station, The Fly, With or Without You, All Because of You, Yahweh, Bad, 40. Bono sings a bit of In a Little While in between The Electric Co. and I Still Haven't Found. Prior to Miss Sarajevo, he sings 'Happy Birthday' for Luciano Pavarotti who will turn 70 in two days. Bad is dedicated to Patti Smith, and Bono sings a bit of her song 'People Have the Power.' **** 'The Capital of CoeXisT': Happy Birthday to Luciano Pavarotti, thanks to Lou Reed and respect to Patti Smith at third NY show. The daytime means Larry and Adam being interviewed for an upcoming piece on CBS's Sixty Minutes, Edge spending time with Anton Corbijn for a UK magazine, Bono on a photo-shoot for Rolling Stone magazine and being interviewed by Jann Wenner.'Oh, Manhattan, Manhattan...' sings Bono as City of Blinding Lights...Bono paid tribute to Lou Reed at the end of Beautiful Day, reciting a snatch of his Romeo Had Juliet: 'Caught between the twisted stars / The plotted lines the faulty map / That brought columbus to new york / Betwixt between the east and west..'... Alicia Keys is here, along with Patti Smith and Michael Stipe. Then there's Christina Applegate, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Peter Sarsgard and Julian Schnabel...'A piece of graffiti, a beautiful simple thought - CoeXisT - a thought that's going to get harder and harder to hold on to if we're not careful. I see New York as the capital of CoeXisT.' Guitarist The Edge was unrelenting in his telegraphic rhythm strums and stinging lead work, and his falsetto vocals throughout the evening added depth to Bono's middle range. As for lanky bassist Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen, the beat they laid down was so tight it seemed as if they have rhythm ESP. As good as Bono and The Edge are, it's the Clayton/Mullen partnership that propels this music. 'So we visited this beautiful city called Sarajevo. We did this song called Miss Sarajevo about these beautiful women. We sung it with Luciano Pavarotti...it is the great man's 70th birthday this week. I think it would be so beautiful if New York could sing him Happy Birthday...'...'There are really 2 million people I'd like to thank,' says Bono, referring to those who have joined the One Campaign http://www.theonecampaign.com/ to fight global poverty since the beginning of the year . 'By 2008 there's going to be 5 million and that makes us bigger than the NRA - thank you very much!'...Edge and Bono share a mike for All Because of You, with Bono hammering a tambourine and, at one point, holding it, halo-like, over Adam's head....'We'd like to dedicate this next song to the great poet of New York. I didn't know what Africa was until I heard Radio Ethiopia.. This is for Patti...Patti Smith.'... **** 'Maybe a 40-minute version of Bad...': Bono loves a good birthday, that's for sure - two days after leading the MSG crowd in a chant for close friend Gavin Friday, last night he directed them to sing for Luciano Pavarotti, co-Passenger on 'Miss Sarajevo,' who turns 70 this week....The one-two punch of 'Zoo Station' and 'The Fly' returned to the set for the first time since the third-leg opener, meeting a rapturous reception from a crowd that might have been the loudest yet of the New York gigs....Bono was forced to shake a persistent cough before the second verse of 'I Still Haven't Found',...and the snarky grin on his face when he caught The Edge playing a rare bum note in the intro to 'Yahweh' probably had his sainted guitarist suppressing the urge to sock him one in the mouth. Certainly the biggest 'oops' of the night came at the close of the show - as Bono touchingly dedicated the next song to New York's unofficial poet laureate, Patti Smith (who was in attendance), he closed his remarks with 'This is...'40'.' Even from the cheap seats you could see Edge's eyebrow shoot up, and Bono then cringed a bit as he realized... 'Err...I mean 'Bad'. Perhaps a 40-minute version of 'Bad'...a chant of Patti's 'People Have The Power' to close the song...**** Some photos on: U2tours
U2 named best live act (Q magazine) - October 10, 2005 - Q Awards Ceremony - The The Grosvenor House Hotel in London's Park Lane. U2 were among those winning plaudits at today's Q Awards in London. The band weren't present in person (being otherwise engaged on a small tour on a different continent) to collect their award as Best Live Act of 2005. But they beamed into the do from New York and were very funny too. At the 10/3 Boston show, Bono announced before the second encore that the next song would be filmed for the ceremony. That song was "All Because of You"
