"War" tour - august 14, 1983. U2 perform in Dublin Ireland at the Phoenix Park Racecourse as part of the "A Day At The Races" concert. U2 headline the bill. Other acts include "The Eurythmics", "Simple Minds", and "Big Country". Bono introduces "Sunday Bloody Sunday" by asking a fan for his Irish Tri-Color: "There's been a lot of talk about this flag, and about this next song." Violinist Steve Wickham joins the band for the song, and stays through "Electric Co.". Bono climbs the scaffolding around the stage, and attracts criticism for being to repetitive--many in the audience have seen the stunt before. "I Fall Down" is dedicated to the drummer of one of the opening bands, "Stiff Little Fingers"; Jim Reilly had lost his brother the previous week in Belfast. Bono's father, Robert Hewson, makes his first appearance on a U2 stage when he gets pulled up in front of the 20,000 fans at the show. As in Werchter on July 3, 1983, Annie Lennox joins the band for "40". The audience sing the chorus for more than 15 minutes after U2 leave the stage.

"The Joshua Tree" tour - august 14, 1987 - U2 announces the itinerary for its fall tour of the U.S. in a nationally syndicated broadcast from New York City.

"ZOOTV - Zooropa" tour - august 14, 1993. U2 perform in Leeds, England at Rounday Park.

"POPMart" tour - august 14, 1997. Prague - Czech Republic - Strahov Stadium. U2 plays in the Czech Republic for the first time, at Strahov Stadium in Prague. Bono tells the audience, "The Russians came with tanks. We, the Irish, come with a lemon." Edge´s karaoke this night is "Born To Be Wild" - one of the most powerful moments, videos from the movie Easy Rider and text appearing on the screen so everybody could sing "like a true nature child we were born BORN TO BE WILD!!!"

"Elevation" tour - august 14, 2001 - Birmingham / UK - NEC Arena. 'I Will Follow'...after the 'Your eyes'...Edge in particular seems to really get into the groove, stamping his leg in time with the beat and thoroughly enjoying every second. This night, Edge wears burgundy shirt # 7.

60th 'VERTIGO' show - august 14, 2005 - Lisbon, Portugal - Estadio Jose Alvalade - The Kaiser Chiefs. Order of Liberty before the show / Bono spoke in Portuguese: 'Se falasse portugues diria obrigado!' / Edge thanked the interview / encouraging people of Portugal to do more to fight extreme poverty / a cardboard image / Portugal´s President is at the show! Keane are unable to fill their opener slot because singer Tom Chaplin is sick. Earlier in the day, U2 receives the Order of Liberty from Portuguese President Jorge Sampaio. Sampaio is reportedly at the show tonight. **** Thank You and Goodnight, Europe: Thirty Two Great Nights in Europe come to a close in Lisbon, Portugal....'Myself, The Edge, Adam and Larry ... today we became Portuguese,' he explained, referring to their visit to the Presidential Palace earlier in the day to receive the Order of Merit. 'We wanna thank you for making us so welcome and we wanna thank the President for pinning this great badge on our chest.' Honours are cool of course but, as Larry never fails to point out, this is a band who are not at the end of their career. 'We're just getting started!' added Bono, to wild cheers as Still Haven't Found cracked open the night and Lisbon became the City of Blinding Lights. 'So tonight is the last night of our European tour and this is a good place to end,' continued Bono. 'Some very beautiful girls,' he noticed, before dedicating Miracle Drug to a children¿s hospital and recalling the author Christopher Nolan. 'It's about a boy we went to school with who was asleep until a little pill which awakened him and he was able to write beautiful poetry. He wrote a book called Damburst of Dreams. His mother always believed in him, that he was awake.'...'It's going to get harder and harder to coexist,' predicted Bono, but that's the spirit of Sunday Bloody Sunday, Love and Peace and Bullet the Blue Sky. 'No more no more' echoed hugely around the stadium, as the night flew by. There's special mention for the man who recorded Miss Sarajevo, at the show tonight, and as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights scrolls up the rear of the stage in gigantic letters, tonight it's in Portuguese - much to the delight of the locals. 'What is going on?' asks a tired but jubilant Bono surveying the chanting of the audience. 'I want to salute the people from Make Poverty History in Portugal. If you want to take out your cell phones and make this place into a Christmas tree.. You can text us / Join us / Email us / Our time is coming / Our generation has something to do / It has fallen on us to say no to extreme poverty / We can say NO../ We want Portugal to lead and not to follow in the fight against extreme poverty / We believe that this government will do it but only if you tell them to..'...Special thanks for crew members as Yahweh arrives, with accompanying brilliant animations and then, in a neat twist on recent shows, there is no second Vertigo but instead the beautiful '40' closes a beautiful European tour. **** Honoured In Lisbon : The band received the Order of Liberty in Portugal tonight, honouring their longtime humanitarian work. President Jorge Sampaio made the award at the presidential palace a few hours before tonight's Lisbon show. He commended U2 for many years combining 'the public exposure it received from its musical success with the protection of humanitarian causes.' Bono took the opportunity to encourage the people of Portugal to do more to help fight extreme poverty. **** Bono and a cardboard image: ...During Electric Co, Bono pulls a life size cardboard image of himself from the audience. He kisses and cuddles it and then lets go of it. Before Haven´t Found, Bono thanks the Portuguese president for the Order of Liberty given to the band a few hours before the show, and he quips the band has now become Portuguese....entering the stadium is quite controlled and orderly....Bono's daughters 'n' friends have been spotted in the audience....**** 'If I could talk Portuguese I would like to say thank you' = 'Se eu falasse portugues diria obrigado!' (on truth, Bono spoke in Portuguese) / Bono´s daughters and sons were at ceremony, very proud of their Dad / the fans runned behind Bono´s car, who appeared from the window and waved to the fans, total hysteria in Lisbon! He thanked the interview that Correio da Manhã made with him: Delírio a ver U2 - Bono encantou completamente os seus fãs portugueses. Aí, agradeceu a entrevista que o CM lhe fez e desapareceu logo a seguir....correiodamanha**** U2: Freedom to believe: ...the concert of the year...Cause U2 know make the perfect wedding between the musc and the ethic, the magnitude and the proximity, the technoly and the human, the minds and the hearts...We just can believe...U2 had the audience in their hands since the first moment. But what he has in his hands, Bono cares, as a love which shouldn´t to be as guaranteed. Then he feeds with his credibility, his charisma...The freedom to fight against poverty. The freedom to coexist with harmony. The freedom to believe that 'I can make the difference'...publico. Some photos: U2-Vertigo-tour and Interference
