SEPTEMBER 29: twice in London / Bono plays and Larry sings / Bono at UK Party conference!

"The Joshua Tree" tour - september 29, 1987. U2 perform in New York, New York at Madison Square Garden. Support is "The Pogues".

"LoveTown" tour - september 29, 1989. U2 perform in Sydney, Australia at the Entertainment Centre. On this night, Bono comments on his new style of playing guitar, "I like squeezing the notes like B.B. King does. I like to take an acoustic guitar and play late at night outside the venue. Who were the girls that were there last night, that we were singing to? Some crazy people waiting outside...should've been in their beds!" Bono invites Larry to sing a verse of "Stand By Me", and trades places with Larry by picking up his drumsticks and playing. Bono attempts to finish the song with a drum solo, but loses one of the drumsticks and quickly ends the song. Support is "Wedding Parties Anything" and B.B. King.

"Bono speaks at UK Labour Party Conference" - september, 29, 2004. Bono speaks today at the Labour Party Conference in Brighton, England. He praises Labour party leaders Tony Blair and Gordon Brown for their efforts to help Africa deal with the ongoing AIDS crisis, but tells the party to "get real" and finish what they started. "There's no way we can look at Africa -- a continent bursting into flames -- and if we're honest conclude that it would ever be allowed to happen anywhere else," Bono says. "Anywhere else. Certainly not here. In Europe. Or America. Or Australia, or Canada. There's just no chance."
