SEPTEMBER 6: "Boy" tour / Sydney / Larry finishes with 'Bono, I will' / 'Suspicious Minds' / 12 albums / Michael Jackson Vangaurd Award!

september 6, 1980 Having finished recording their debut album with Steve Lillywhite in Dublin's Windmill Lane Studios, U2 kick off the "Boy" tour, with a gig in the General Woolfe in Coventry. The backdrop features 7 year old Peter Rowan as a symbol of the innocence and purity of childhood.

"The Unforgettable Fire" tour - september 6, 1984. U2 perform in Sydney, Australia at the Entertainment Centre. The show suffer minor techincal difficulties, but none like the first night. Support for all five concerts is Matt Finish.

"ZOOTV" tour - september 6, 1992. U2 perform in Toronto, Ontario, Canada at the Canadian National Exhibition Stadium. On the second night, Larry's voice cracks throughout "Whiskey In the Jar". During "Trying To Throw Your Arms Around The World" Bono sings, "I'm gonna run to you, Larry be still," then holds the microphone out for Larry to finish with "Bono, I will." During "Desire", Bono picks a girl from the crowd who is also dressed in gold lame pants. She matches his Elvis leg-shake impersonation and draws a huge cheer from the crowd. Support is B.P. Fallon, "Primus", and "Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy".

"POPMart" tour - september 6, 1997. U2 perform in Paris, France. Parc des Princes. Placebo. Edge´s karaoke this night is "Suspicious Minds".

"Entire U2 catalog on Irish album charts" - september 6, 2001. Less than a week after U2's second hugely successful homecoming concert at Slane Castle, the band's entire 12-album catalog appears within the top 60 spots of the Irish album sales chart: 1. All That You Can't Leave Behind / 5. The Joshua Tree / 10. The Best Of 1980-1990 / 11. Achtung Baby / 17. Rattle and Hum / 33. The Unforgettable Fire / 35. Zooropa / 37. Pop / 40. War / 43. Under A Blood Red Sky / 45. Boy / 60. October.

"Mixed bag for U2 at MTV Video Music Awards" - september 6, 2001. Despite having two videos nominated for a total of five awards, U2 doesn't pick up any hardware for the "Beautiful Day" or "Elevation" videos. But they don't go home empty-handed -- MTV honors the band with its Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. Bono pays tribute to the remaining members of The Ramones during his acceptance speech. U2 also performs tonight, doing a medley of "Elevation" and "Stuck In a Moment...".
