JULY 4: Island in Ireland / tracks for "New Year´s Day" single / 25th anniversary of Island in Paris-tear gas? / "All Because Of You" is posted online!

"Island in Ireland" - july 4, 1962. Island Records is established in Dublin, Ireland by Chris Blackwell as an outlet for the Irish music scene.

"October" tour - july 4, 1982. U2 perform in Werchter, Belgium at the Festival Grounds. Other bands of note are "Steve Miller Band", "Tom Tom Club", "Talking Heads" and Jackson Browne. Bono, as he did the day before in Torhout, again climbs the scaffolding during the show. After getting back onstage, Bono mumbles "Never Again". Bono grabs a white flag with "U2" written on it from the audience and dances with it. The festival is filmed by IDTV and is broadcast by several TV and radio stations in Holland and Belgium. "Fire", "I Threw a Brick" and "A Day Without Me", are issued in January 1983 on the "New Year's Day" single.

"The Joshua Tree" tour - july 4, 1987. U2 perform in Paris, France at the Hippodrome De Vincennes. The attendence is 70,000 - a record for France. U2 again release 500 tickets the day of the show to foil scalpers. BBC-TV is also airing the Island Record's 25th Anniversary Celebration in the UK, and parts of the show are broadcast live in the UK. U2 again come out on stage while Bono sings "Stand By Me" while it plays on the speakers. The crowd go wild, and surge forward, crushing people in the front. Fans are forced to jump over the barricade to escape the crush. As they were in Dublin, Ireland on June 27, 1987, the band seem a bit startled by the sea of people facing them. During "With Or Without You" a yellow smoke stink-bomb is ignited close to the stage. The crowd panic and fans are again crushed against the barrier between the crowd and stage. Bono is outraged: "HOLD IT!" he yells, and the band immediately stop realizing something is seriously wrong, "I hope everything's okay down at the front, because nobody gets into trouble at a U2 concert, NOBODY gets hurt at a U2 concert! What is this stuff?" Bono reacts to smelling the stink-bomb, "Tear Gas? I thought we had enough tears in this song!" Bono sings improvised lyrics to the song: "I was strolling down this Paris way/I walked through the streets in the light of the day/And I knew that summer had arrived when I saw your eyes/When I see you/Well I hope that it was good, as it was good for me, if it was good for you...then it was good for me." Support is "The Pogues" and "UB40".

"All Becaue Of You" is posted online - july 4, 2004. A 53-second clip of what's believed to be the new song "All Because of You" is posted online. The clip is fairly low quality, sounding like it was recorded outside the band's Dublin studios. Online fans aren't bothered by the quality, and generally approve of what they hear.
