The judge orders Cashman to return to U2 personal belongings she had claimed were given to her. The point of principle involved was of much greater significance to us than any item of memorabilia." Cashman says she will appeal the decision.

41st 'VERTIGO' show - july 5, 2005 - Katowice, Poland - Slaski Stadium - The Magic Numbers, The Killers. Polish flag: a huge from the crowd and Bono´s jacket / Happy B-Day to Edge / "Miracle Drug" to the pope John Paul II / Bono and Edge with the crowd! During New Year's Day, a song inspired by Poland's Solidarity movement in the early 80s, fans raise red and white shirts and cloths to form an image of the Polish flag. Miracle Drug is dedicated to the late Pope John Paul II. Seventy thousand Polish fans created an unforgettable national flag for New Year's Day last night. It was one of those great U2 moments. Five songs into their set in Poland's southern Chorzow city stadium, Edge's piano signalled the start of New Year's Day - a song originally inspired by Lech Walesa and the Solidarity movement to free Poland from communism. Suddenly all the fans on the pitch raised flags and scarves in red - while all the fans in the seats around the stadium brandished white flags and scarves. Bono was so moved by the red and white sea before him that he took off his jacket, turned it inside out and put it back on to show the red lining inside. He then walked to the front of the stage and bowed to an ecstatic audience as a mark of respect to their creativity and their spectacular re-creation of the national flag. As Willie Williams, U2's Show Designer notes in his latest tour diary, it was 'wonderful humbling and thrilling.' 'The best moment was going into New Year's Day where the audience, entirely of their own volition, produced flags and scarves. Everyone on the floor of the stadium had red, everyone in the grandstands had white, so the whole stadium turned into a huge Polish flag. 'I have never seen an audience do anything like it before' getting it together to surprise and delight us. I think my mouth must have fallen open. Who organized this? The fact that it was premeditated made it all the more extraordinary; an audience consciously plotting to put on a show for the performers. It was absolutely wonderful, humbling, thrilling all at the same time. A great, great crowd, and a unique atmosphere. The idea to highlight the Polish inspiration for the classic U2 song came from local fans, caught fire on the net and was boosted with local media prior to the show. Coming just days after Live 8 and in the run up to the G8 meetings in Scotland (Bono is flying in today), it was a poignant sign that people really can and do change history. The crowd in red and white. Bono and Adam. Bono wore a jacket with the Polish flague. At the beginning Bono thanked to.. the local taxi company He said: " Thanks to radio taxi for bringing us here" During "All I want is you" he picked one girl and started to dance with her on the stage. " I'm looking for someone who can speak English well" said Bono. One girl went to the stage. Bono told her, that he wants dedicate "Miracle drug" to Polish Pope. But suddenly this girl said to Bono. "Can I tell you a secret? I can't speak English.." All audience started laughing. However, we understood all. Also, Polish fans sung happy birthday to Edge. Bono wrapped himself in red and white during New Year's Day and during Beautiful Day he sang 'See the Polish flag right in front of you'." thern Chorzow city stadium Tuesday night. U2 is currently touring with material from their newest album, "Vertigo". Fans on the stadium pitch waved red items, while those sitting in the bleachers brandished white during the Cold-War era song. Ever the showman, Bono also underscored the Polish inspiration for the song's lyrics by showing the red lining of his jacket and bowing deeply to the audience as he sang. "New Year's Day" appeared on U2's 1983 breakthrough album "WAR". According to Bono, the song's lyrics were inspired in part by the Polish communist regime's brutal crackdown in December 1981 on the freedom-fighting Solidarity trade union and its underground struggle, unprecedented at the time in the Soviet-dominated Eastern Bloc. The idea to underscore the Polish inspiration for the U2 classic arose from and was organized among the band's Polish fans on the Internet and was then relayed by the Polish media prior to the concert.
