"October" tour - october 6, 1981. U2 perform in Coventry, England at Warwick University. Support is "Comsat Angels".

"The Joshua Tree" tour - october 6, 1987. U2 perform in Cleveland, Ohio at Municipal Stadium. As "Out of Control" starts, Bono comments, "This is one of the first songs we ever wrote..." As the song progresses, Bono comments on the lack of radio play the band suffered from early in their career, and thanks Cleveland for being one of the first cities in North America to play U2. It rains during most of the concert, but at the end of the show it finally stops. "Let me see the people in the back," he says during "40", "I can see clearly now, the rain has gone, yeah!" Support is Little Steven & The Disciples of Soul and "Los Lobos".

"Bono's paintings for Peter & the Wolf debut in Dublin" - october 6, 2003. An exhibition of Bono's Peter & the Wolf artwork (drawn with help from his daughters Jordan and Eve) is launched in Dublin. The paintings are part of a new release of the children's classic with the proceeds going to benefit the Irish Hospice Foundation. The exhibit will move to London next, and then to the U.S. where they will be auctioned at Christie's in New York. Edge attended the exhibition.

U2 to split from Island Records - October 7, 2006 - After 26 years and global sales of around 150 million albums, U2, arguably the world's biggest band, have quit the record label that discovered them. Insiders claimed yesterday that the band's members, led by Bono, became fed up with the Island Records' senior management's "hands-off" approach towards them, despite their having generated hundreds of millions of pounds for the label. Friends said yesterday that the final straw came during a recent recording session in London. While Bono and the band worked on new tracks to add to their latest "Best of" compilation, no one from Island Records dropped by to meet them. One observer claimed this "put their noses out of joint" and did nothing to help the deteriorating relationship. Their closest ally at the label, the former general manager Jason Iley, was appointed managing director of Mercury Records last year, and the band have now followed him there. U2 have frequently said they owe their career to Island and that its founding boss, Chris Blackwell, was instrumental to their career. No other label had shown any interest in giving them a deal when the band were signed in 1980. Despite leaving Island, the band will remain within the Universal Music Group. The first release on the new label will be a charity single next month.

U2 are brilliant on Conan O'Brian show on NBC...Edge taking part in a surreal futuristic comic quiz!!!! October 06, 2005 / New York, NY - NBC Studios - All Because of You, Original of the Species, Stuck In a Moment You Can't Get Out Of, Vertigo. U2 are the sole guests on the hour-long Late Night with Conan O'Brian show on NBC. Original of the Species is performed with a 4-piece string section. The band are interviewed throughout the program, and Bono and Edge take part in a 'Year 2000' comedy sketch with O'Brian. Some photos: interference. Edge and Bono taping HBO interview in NYC, by U2´s fan De Vaul (its supposed to air on HBO - november 24th) - "... What an amazing day. We were instructed to pick up tickets at Mo Pitkins on Ave A. From there, we were given wristbands and directions to Joe's Pub, where the taping was to occur. I hustled my arse down there ASAP, and ended up being the 6th person in line. The only gent. Oh well, no complaints! We waited for awhile, many of us escaping the line to hit the restroom at Starbucks. The bathroom line was longer than the coffee line and moving three times slower. Oh well, a quick leak and back to standing outside Joe's. They let us in and sat us down. Dave Stewart (of The Eurythmics) is hosting a show on HBO, interviewing songwriters about the stories behind their songs - the ideas, gestation, development in the studio, etc. Bono & Edge came out (to rapturous applause by an incredibly excited room of lucky fans) and traded stories & jokes with Dave; we were allowed to call out some song names and the boys told us about writing and recording them. We got let out a little before 5 ("be available til 4"? riiiight), and a few of us waited for autographs outside. The Edge got into his car around 5:30 and left without stopping. Hearts sank. There was audible sighing. Right around 6, Bono got in his car. As it rolled alongside us waiting fans, we waved but he wasn't looking back at us. Then, the car stopped. Bono got out! Mine was the first hand he shook. He signed my copy of Boy, took pictures and gave autographs to the other folks there. What a completely humble and decent gentleman! ... No performance, just discussion. Unless you count an acapella rendition of a few lines of "Two Shots of Happy, One Shot of Sad" a performance. ..." IN THE YEAR 2000 The Edge Edition: "Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore will have a child. Its first words, 'Hey, who's the old lady?'" / "Industrial lucite will replace crystal as most common stripper name." / "U2 will become very self-destructive and replace Bono with a far less reliable singer, Bonaduce." / "U2 will reveal that we wrote the song, 'I still haven't found what i'm looking for,' after we went to four supermarkets looking for Boo Berry Cereal." / "Mr. T will direct a documentary about Kirstie Alley's week-long tour of the grand canyon. The title, 'I pity the mule.'" / "U2 will reluctantly admit that the original title for our album, 'Achtung Baby,' was in fact 'Oi Vay Mama.'" / "'Bono will catch mono from Alyssa Milano. / The Edge will clip a hedge for sister sledge. / Adam Clayton will worship Satan in Dayton. / And Larry Mullen Jr. will be impossible to rhyme with." / "The Edge will admit that he wears a knitted cap to take the attention off Bono's crap sunglasses." / "The Edge will admit that the reason he wears knit caps is to cover the forehead tattoo that says, 'I Heart Urkel'?"

"Secrets" - Conan - U2´s edition!: *Edge: "We're not really Irish. Honestly, we're not. We're from Duluth. But, one day we saw this Irish Spring commercial and went, 'that's it, we'll be Irish.'"
*Larry: "Everything I know about drumming I learned from watching Max Weinberg. I'm sorry, did I say drumming? I meant shoplifting."
*Bono: "I'll be honest with you, nobody promotes peace as well as me. Nobody. If I don't win that Nobel Peace Prize, I'm gonna grab a big ass crow bar and I'm gonna whoop me some Norwegian skull"
