MAY 11: John Travolta / Bob Marley dies / fans crushed / up on your feet / satellite with problems / Larry´s "Wild Rover" / Bill Graham (U2´s friend) dies in Ireland.

"Boy" tour - may 11, 1981 - Denver / Colorado - Rainbow Music Hall - The Hall is again sold out, only six weeks after U2's first concert there....Halfway through "Boy/Girl" Bono informs the audience that John Travolta has been asked to play the part of Jim Morrison in a forthcoming film about The Doors. He reminisces about the fil "Saturday Night Fever" and sings a few lines of Chubby Checker´s "Let´s Twist Again" ("Like we did last summer..."). The show is recorded and broadcast by local radio station KEZY.

"Bob Marley dies" - may 11,1981 - Reggae star Bob Marley dies of cancer in a Miami hospital at the age of 36. "Rastaman Vibration" is the highest-charting album by Bob Marley & the Wailers, reaching Billboard's top 10 in 1976.

"War" tour - may 11, 1983 - New York City / New York - Palladium - Bono stops "I Will Follow" to ask the crowd to move back a bit, as the fans in the front were getting crushed. After this concert there is serious discussion that U2 only play all-seat theatres to prevent instances like this nights. Support is "Dream Syndicate".

"The Joshua Tree" tour - may 11, 1987 - East Rutherford / New Jersey - Meadowlands Arena - U2 play five sold-out concerts and in front of 100,000+ fans. These are the last five shows of the first leg of "The Joshua Tree" tour. The first night's show, The Edge has trouble starting "C'mon Everybody", and Bono again adlibs with the crowd, "Well, c'mon everybody, let's get to Meadowlands tonight. Well New Jersey's okay, and I'm going to stay here all night..." The crowd are wild on this night, and when Bono asks them to remain quiet during "Springhill Mining Disaster", he's shocked to see people sitting down. "I've never seen people sitting down at a U2 concert!" he shouts at the audience, "This is amazing! And I'm not sure if I like it! Up on your feet!"

"ZOOTV" tour - may 11, 1992 - Lyon / France - Espace Tony Garnier - Prior to the show, the audience sing "Happy Birthday" to Bono. The usually live ZooTV pictures are from tape tonight (plan B), owing to a sattelite dish problem. Support is B.P. Fallon and "Fatima Mansions".

"ZOOTV - Zooropa" tour" - may 11, 1993 - Rotterdam / Holland - Feyenoord Stadium - During "New Year´s Day" Bono disapears into the First Aid pit at the side of the stage and the cameram has trouble locating him. Larry comes forward to do "Wild Rover", with the crowd nicely filling in hand claps. Queen Beatrix is MacPhisto´s next victm. "Love Is Blindness" has lighters switching on and off in the stadium.

Bill Graham dies" - may 11, 1996 - Hot Press journalist Bill Graham passes away suddenly of a heart attack at his home in Howth, Ireland. It was Graham who first championed the band in Dublin media and who suggested to both the band members and Paul McGuinness that McGuinness manage their career. The band fly back to Dublin from America to attend his funeral (may 15), where Bono performs a moving version of Leonard Cohen's "Tower of Song". Gavin Friday, Simon Carmody, Liam O'Maonlai, Maire Brennan and Martin Hayes are among the many artists who play at the service.
