"U2 meet Paul McGuinness - may 25, 1978. At Bill Graham's suggestion, and after months of pestering by Adam Clayton, Paul McGuinness sees U2 live for the first time at a support gig for the "Revolvers" in Dublin's Project Arts Centre and decides to become their manager. Paul McGuinness's only previous experience in the music industry was as a promoter for forgotten's Sixties singer Donovan's return to the stage in Dublin, and managing an Irish Folk Band called "Spud". McGuinness previously dabbled in advertising, ran a mobile DJ service, drove a cab, been a tourguide in Lourdes, and worked as a location manager on a movie starring Sean Connery. During this time, U2 start writing their own material: "Alone in The Light", "Fake Prophet", "The Magic Carpet", "Concentration Camp", "Street Mission", and "Boy/Girl". After the show, in a pub close to the Project Arts Centre, McGuinness agrees to manage U2. He places them on a 25 Pound subsistence allowance, and they agree to give him a 20% cut of all profits from the band.
