MAY 1ST: Dandelion Market / UK TV / 'Wide Awake In America' / 7 millions / 'Rattle And Hum" / "White Christmas" / "Mission: Impossible" / snow and cold temperatures / cellphone.

"Legendary afternoon gigs" - may 1979. U2 play the first of six now legendary afternoon gigs at the Dandelion Market in Dublin. Organized in a disused car park next to what was known then as the Gaiety Green (beside Stephen's Green), these gigs are intended to expand the band's young fan base, enabling them to reach a crowd often prohibited from other U2 gigs because of Ireland's strict liquor liscencing laws.

"UK TV" - may 01, 1982 / UK TV - 'Get Set For Summer' - Gloria, A Celebration, Rejoice.

"War" tour - may 1, 1983. U2 perform in Stony Brook, New York. At the soundcheck, Bono performs Bing Crosby's "White Christmas".

"in America" - may 1985. "Wide Awake in America" is released.

"pass 7 million" - may 1987. Worldwide sales of "The Joshua Tree" pass 7 million.

'Rattle And Hum" - may 1988. U2 record some extra material for "Rattle and Hum" at Dublin's Point Depot.

"Mission Impossible" - may 1, 1996. Adam and Larry release their version of the "Mission Impossible" theme track. It goes Top 10 in the US, the UK and numerous other territories.

"POPMart" tour - may 1, 1997 U2 perform in Denver, Colorado. With snow in the forecast and very cold temperatures in the high altitude of Denver, less than 30,000 fans show up for U2's show at Mile High Stadium.

"Elevation" tour - may 01, 2001 / Minneapolis, MN - Target Center. PJ Harvey. During 'With or Without You', Bono takes a cellphone from a fan and sings a line to the person on the other end of the call. Edge wears "MN Timberwolves" shirt, this night.
