"ZOOTV - Zooropa" tour - july 14, 1993. U2 perform in Marseille, France. A fan is pulled from the crowd(for some unknown reason) and is forced to stand beside speakers. He eventually becomes deaf and later sues the concert promoter. During the show , Bono calls Bill Carter in Sarajevo on the telephone and asks Carter to explain to the audience what is happening there.
U2 & Paul McCartney:the hot top debut - july 14, 2005. The Hot 100's top debut was a version of the Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" by Paul McCartney with U2 at No. 48. The track was made available through Apple's iTunes music store shortly after the artists finished performing it at the Live 8 concert in London on July 2.
U2 set Album Chart record - July 14, 2005 - In what is almost certainly an all-time record, U2 currently have no less than eleven albums in the Irish Top 75, as compiled by IRMA. The unprecedented explosion in sales by the band comes in the wake of their similarly record-breaking three-night run at Croke Park, which saw them play to a total audience of around a quarter of a million, and last week's Live 8 appearance in Hyde Park. U2's current album How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, which has already gone multi-platinum in Ireland, leads the charge at No. 4, and The Joshua Tree - voted the No. 1 Greatest Irish Album of All Time this year by Hotpress readers - follows at No. 12. Both of their Best Of... collections also feature in the Top 20, with...1980-1990 at No. 13 and...'1990-2000 at No. 19. The other chart placings are: All That You Can't Leave Behind (32); Achtung Baby (35); Rattle And Hum (43); Live: Under A Blood Red Sky (48); The Unforgettable Fire (53); Boy (63); and War (67). Of their entire recorded output to date, only October, Pop and Zooropa are outside the Top 75 cut-off. Meanwhile, they also have three titles in the Music Video Top 10, with Go Home: Live From Slane Castle at No. 1, The Best Of 1990-2000 at No. 6 and Rattle And Hum at No. 9.
U2 in Wisseloord studios - Hilversum - south-east of Amsterdam - July 14, 2005 - It was supposed to be a day off but Jacknife Lee was spotted with the band making their way to the Wisseloord Studios last week. Seems that on Thursday – supposed to be a rest day between the three Amsterdam shows - band and key crew members were holed up in the legendary Wisseloord studios in the city of Hilversum, south-east of Amsterdam. Also in the house were producer Garrett "Jacknife" Lee and strings arranger James Banbury whose previous credits include Snow Patrol, Aqualung, Joy Zipper, Katherine Jenkins and Kasabian. No confirmation as to what was going on inside Studios 1 and 3 until late into Thursday night but maybe there’s a clue in the band’s last visit to Wisseloord Studios. That was during the European leg of PopMart where they worked on a remix of a rather wonderful song called ‘Please’ - produced by Howie B and with strings arranged by Craig Armstrong. The track was subsequently released as a single in September 1997 - the fourth single from the album Pop.
